My Approbationsbehörde never answers by email, only by letter. Is that normal? I am abroad and need information quickly.

Yes, unfortunately, only by mail is normal for some authorities because it is legally secure. From abroad, a power of attorney plus a person in Germany, case number always in the subject line, and a clean document list with tracking help. It's better to ask about the completeness of the documents than about when the Approbation will arrive.

If you are abroad, use a power of attorney for someone in Germany who can scan letters and make phone calls to authorities.

Unfortunately yes. Many authorities are old school. What's important is the file number and the correct address.
