Both are a bit right, hence the confusion. The current situation:
• As an employed doctor, you are generally covered by the clinic's business liability insurance for your professional activities. You do not need your own policy for normal ward duties.
• However, this coverage only applies to professional activities. Side activities, expert opinions, locum tenens, assistance outside of duty, or gross negligence may be excluded.
• Check your contract to see if co-insurance is expressly mentioned, and otherwise, have it confirmed in writing by the HR department. Also, check if recourse in cases of gross negligence is regulated.
• Your own professional liability insurance is comparatively inexpensive for Assistenzärzte and is particularly worthwhile as soon as you do anything outside of your employment contract.
Get written confirmation from the clinic first, then decide. I would not sign without this confirmation.
