Hello Kwame, your question is really important, thank you very much for asking it here! In short: With a tourist or Schengen visa, you are not allowed to take the Kenntnisprüfung. This visa is intended exclusively for tourist stays. For the KP, you need a national visa for the recognition of foreign professional qualifications (§ 16d AufenthG). This visa is specifically intended for you to enter the country for examinations such as the KP or FSP. Even if it may take longer at the moment to receive the recognition visa, it is the only legally secure way. A tourist visa would, in the worst case, mean that you will not be admitted to the examination or even get into trouble with the authorities. 👉 Important to know: A revocation or conversion of the tourist visa into a recognition visa within Germany is not possible. So you have to apply for the correct visa type from the beginning. My tip: If your exam date is very soon, contact the responsible Landesärztekammer directly and ask about possibilities for postponement. That is safer than risking a wrong visa.
